Hyper On Experience - Lords Of The Null Lines (Bright Lights Remix)

Hyper On Experience - Lords Of The Null Lines

The original and by far my favourite mix. I’ve probably posted this before but fuck it: it’s brilliant. It just came up on my random playlist in Winamp and reminded me of it’s genius. It was on the amazing Suburban Base and Moving Shadow album ‘The Joint’, which I got on vinyl back then and loved pretty much every track.

Another interesting thing about this track is that you can kinda hear the emphasis starting to be put more on the kick and snare as opposed to the crunchy break samples in between, which obviously led to the kick/snare type ‘DnB’ sound which to be honest, I don’t really like at all - I love the crunchiness and air of those old breakbeats.

In fact to me this was such a turning point and snapshot in time in hardcore/jungle/DnB evolution that I didn’t actually even bother getting ‘The Joint II’ when it came out, my friend’s had it, but I wasn’t too into it, to me it had already gone too sub-bass and sparse-beats type sound for my liking, definitely more THC than MDMA ;).

Proper mental stuff - also an indicator of how brilliant hardcore was just before the full on ‘split’  - pretty much every track on ‘The Joint’ is a classic… -
